134 Montague Street - Parr Division
The Church’s first inducted minister was the Rev. Alexander MacLean, who arrived in St. Andrews from Glasgow, Scotland in the spring of 1824, aboard the Flora, a ship piloted by Captain John McCullough of St. Andrews. For all his successful ocean voyages, Captain had the misfortune to drown in St. Andrews Harbour and was the first person to be buried in the graveyard by the new minister.
Also buried here is the Rev. John Cassilis, who was instrumental in leading local Presbyterians to establish the Greenock Church in the early 1820s, served as an elder on the First Session and remained associated with the church for many years. He died in 1850 at the age of 71.
The use of this and other cemeteries in the Town Plat was discontinued in the mid 1860s when new provincial legislation barred interment in settled areas.
