Greenock Church Hall (c. 1893)

146 Montague Street - Parr Division
In June of 1893, Mrs. John (Martha Ann) Campbell initiated the construction of a church hall for Sunday School and other church purposes by giving a lot of land immediately adjoining the church grounds.  The cornerstone was laid on July 15, 1893 with the blessing of the Rev. Archibald Gunn. The hall was completely finished without expense to the church by two ladies of modest income, Miss Annie P. Campbell and Miss Susan E. Mowatt. A large and beautiful memorial window over the main entrance was the gist of Mrs. Henry M. McLeod, mother of another pastor (Rev. A.W. Mahon) in memory of Martha Ann Campbell.

The character-defining elements include:
  • Front facing gable
  • large ornate Gothic arched double church windows over entrance
  • 1893 plaque over Gothic arched windows
  • vertical 9 over 9 windows flank entranceway
  • eave returns
  • large door with 6 wood panels

Architectural Style: Gothic
